What’s the point in having a website if nobody is going to see it, right? =) You want google and yahoo and bing and all the search engines to ♥ you, don’t you? Let me help you with that !
Getting well ranked on google used to frighten me but after reading this post you will see it’s not as complicated as it seems.
Don’t pay to get your posts to rank, don’t try and cheat the system… Simply follow the below simple steps and your post/pages will naturally rank.
Not all your posts will always rank of course, some never will… and it’s all right! On the other hand, some of your posts will rank under 24h on the first page of google, depending on the competition (and other factors that I’ll cover without further ado!)
A keyword is a word or a set of words that you will insert in your post/page title and first paragraph (and that’s it!), to let search engines know what your post/page is about.
Keywords are simply words that people type in the search bar on google/yahoo/bing/yandex every time they perform a research. For example : “what is the best autoresponder?” or “how to train your dog” or “how to lose belly fat fast“… those are keywords.
Every keyword has a certain traffic per month and a certain competition. If you have no idea what the traffic is for a specific keyword and what the competition is for that same keyword, how do you know what your chances to get ranked are?
There was a time when getting ranked on search engines was a lot easier. But search engines have evolved over time and you can no longer stuff your posts with keywords and expect to get ranked, like magic.
My advice is that you use a keyword research tool each and every time you write a post/page. The best one to this day is undoubtedly Jaaxy. You can read my Jaaxy full review here.
Ok so keywords are important but keywords without content won’t be of much use to you =)
You have to understand that people look for things online, they want answers to their questions… they need help with something… they are searching for solutions, reviews and seeking advice.
As a consequence if you don’t write quality, unique and helpful content, search engines will not love you =). They won’t qualify your website as relevant and useful to their billions of users.
If you don’t know where to start and freak out at the thought of writing content, I recommend the following post : How To Write Content For A Blog – 7 Tips
Another great way to get ranked on search engines is by getting comments on your website. Comments are considered content by search engines. So every time you get a new comment, it is counted as new content, which will help you maintain your ranking or even climb up the ranks =)
A comment left by a visitor is a sign of commitment to your content. Indeed, when someone takes the time to comment on one of your posts, they decide to start a discussion with you. Google loves websites that have interactions and activity.
Now, people will leave you comments for various reasons and it is really important that you also take the time to get back to them (unless they’re spam comments). People contact you through the comments box to :
– annoy you with their own promotions (lol)
– share their opinion, which will not necessarily be the same as yours =)
–thank you for giving them an answer to their question or solving their problem
– ask for further information, related to your post
Comments will give you the opportunity to inject new content and especially internal links or to products that you want to recommend to people. Google loves internal links and google will also love that you share links from other people’s websites.
Ah social media… ! What a fantastic discovery! (or not) lol… Honestly, I’m not a big fan of social media, especially Facebook. What I really don’t like is the way people post status updates nobody cares about (at least, I don’t…). Who cares about what they had for breakfast or that it was raining when they went to work this morning? …
But, anyway! It’s a fact, social media are all the rage and they can help you get ranked (especially if you know how to use them). I would recommend two social networks : Pinterest and Google +
The nice thing about Google + is that well, it belongs to google so anything you publish on your google + account will rank on Google, obviously! =)
If you don’t have a google + account, click here.
As for Pinterest, well, for starters, it is probably my most favorite social media =) And then, Pinterest is one of the most popular social networks out there, focusing on the social element of images.
As a marketer, you can leverage Pinterest to attract traffic and a following. Your “pins” and “boards” will also have the capabilities to get rankings in the search engines which in another plus.
