Tips On How To Choose Your Domain Name

1 – Start brainstorming for relevant to your domain words.

– List as many words as you can think of related to your preferred domain name. – List as many words as you can think of that are related to the content of your website.

2 – Make different combinations with the listed words that are:

– short

– memorable

– not easily confused

– hard to misspell

– relate to the core of the business

– sound solid to the core of your business.

Shorter domain names are easier to remember and type, and far less susceptible to mistakes: for example lottary.com is easier to remember, type than playthenationallottaryonline.com

But sometimes there is an exeption to this rule. A longer domain can be easier to remember by human memory than the shorter one – for example tbrea.com is a sequence of unrelated letters that is difficult to remember and type correctly, whereas, if we expand it to its long form ‘TheBestRealEstateAgency.com’ we are more likely to remember the domain name.

  1. Pick a few of these combinations that you most like for the name of your domain. You can consider combinations with words in singular or plural. If you like a specific word to be included in the domain name, think of all its forms: noun, verb, adverb, adjective. Consider also hyphens and numbers: sometimes you are a hyphen away from the dreamed domain name.

  2. Make it Easy to Type
Finding a domain name that’s easy to type is critical to online success. If you use slang (u instead of you) or words with multiple spellings (express vs. xpress), it may be harder for customers to find your site.
  3. Keep it Short
If your domain name is long and complex, you risk customers mistyping or misspelling it. Short and simple is the way to go.
  4. Use Keywords
Try using keywords that describe your business and the services you offer. For example; if you’re a glass replacement business, you may want to register GlassRepair.com or GlassReplacement.com. Include the keywords that people enter when searching for your products or services. It helps improve your rank on search engines (which increases traffic) and just makes more sense to your customers.
  5. Target Your Area
If your business is local, consider including your city or state in your domain name to make it easy for local customers to find and remember. Example: PhoenixGlassRepair.com.
  6. Avoid Numbers and Hyphens
Numbers and hyphens are often misunderstood — people who hear your website address don’t know if you’re using a numeral (5) or it’s spelled out (five) or they misplace or forget the dash. If you need these in your domain, register the different variations to be safe.
  7. Use an Appropriate Domain Name Extension
Extensions are suffixes, such as .COM or .NET, at the end of Web addresses. These can have specific uses, so make sure to choose one that works for your business. .COM is far and away the most popular, then comes .org and .net
  8. Start searching for the availability of these domains. Domain names sell quickly. Thankfully, they’re also inexpensive, so register your favorite domain names as soon as possible. If you’re having trouble finding an available name, domain registrars like GoDaddy or Namecheap will suggest alternate names during your domain search to help you find the perfect name.

  9. If you do business online, register your domain with as many of the extensions as available! Point them all to your site Let your name drive more traffic to your site.

  10. If your preferred choice is not available, do not discourage and try the next combination!
